About the work
FCUK KLEIN is a new hand-painted artwork by British artist Stuart Semple, created using his proprietary International Semple Blue — the very pigment currently at the centre of a legal battle over whether an artist can use a colour.
Referencing both the bold graphic identity of French Connection and the highly controlled legacy of Yves Klein, this piece exists as a protest, a parody, and a direct artistic intervention.
The work comes accompanied by a signed Certificate of Illegality, a conceptual document that both authenticates the work and ridicules the notion of copyright control over colour, language, and expression.
Each piece is painted in the artist’s studio using ISB, synthetic polymer, and Black 4.0. Each is unique.
And no, Yves Klein’s son is not allowed to buy one.
