About the work
On 7th of June 2024 Stuart Semple legally changed his name to Anish Kapoor.
The performance itself questioned the concept of ownership, entitlement and the value of artist names within the contemporary art world.
This artwork commemorates the performance and is the first artwork signed under the new name.
Each piece is signed by A. Kapoor in graphite.
The text on each piece is handprinted using Black 4.0 (a paint Semple developed to be the blackest paint in the world)
The work comes accompanied by a full colour facsimile of the name change deed (each hand signed in ink) document that legislated Semple’s name change to Anish Kapoor.
